Chief Executive, Waterways Authority
Matthew
Taylor was a career naval officer, retiring in 1990 in the rank
of Commodore. Since then he has held various positions relating
to marine administration in the NSW State Government. In July 1999
he was appointed as Chief Executive of the Waterways Authority.
In this capacity he has responsibility for the marine safety legislation
as it relates to vessels registered in NSW and for the management
of all boating activities on NSW waterways. The Waterways Authority
has a staff of 280 and offices in 32 cities and towns in regional
NSW.
Matthew Taylor is also Chairman, State Marine
Oil Pollution Response Committee, and was in charge of the clean
up of the LAURA D'AMATO Oil Spill in Sydney Harbour on 3 August
1999 and the associated investigation. He was also in charge of
the oil pollution response activities in connection with the recent
grounding of HMS NOTTINGHAM off Lord Howe Island.
