LEIGH
STEVENS is a marine ecologist at the Cawthron Institute, a
not-for-profit research organization based in Nelson, NZ.
He specializes in ecological impact assessment,
and leads Cawthron's government funded research programme
on oil spill response, planning and policy. Projects include
writing dispersant use guidelines for the NZ National Oil
Spill Response Plan, assessment of dispersant effectiveness
and toxicity, development of rapid ecological assessment and
monitoring protocols, and scenario-based ecological risk assessments
to guide net environmental benefit analysis.
Leigh provided ecological and dispersant
advice to the Maritime Safety Authority during the Jody F
Millennium Tier 3 response.
