Mr Alfred Popp QC

Alfred Popp, QC, is Senior General Counsel, Maritime Law Secretariat, Department of Justice Canada, in Ottawa. He is the current Chairman of the Legal Committee, International Maritime Organisation (IMO), a post he has held since March 1993. He has chaired numerous diplomatic conferences, notably, in 1992 (92 Protocols), 1996 (HNS Convention) and 2001 (Bunkers Convention).

He chairs the IOPC Fund Working Group aimed at revising the 1992 IOPC Fund Compensation scheme. Mr. Popp received his BA and his LLB at Rhodes University, Grahamstown, South Africa and his LLM at the University of Ottawa. He is a member of the Bar of British Columbia.
